Some tips when buying strings:
Buy a set of strings to keep at home. It is cheaper to order a set of strings or buy single strings from Southwest Strings or Shar than have to buy a single string locally. I recommend Super-Sensitive "Red Label" for 4th grade and Thomastik "Dominant" for other grades. (Make sure you order the correct size for your child's instrument.)
Consider a Kun shoulder pad for your violinist or violist. (Make sure you order the right size for your child's instrument.) This can help free the left hand for getting around the instrument easily, shifting or vibrato.
Just order a catalogue to look through. It is free, and they have lots
of fun and interesting things to look at and they make great gifts for
you or your musician! Most catalogues you can request by simply going
to their website links above.
